For Cancer Patients

Most cancer patients will be treated with either chemotherapy or radiation, or both. Chemotherapeutic drugs are designed to kill rapidly growing cancer cells, but in the process they kill rapidly dividing normal cells. The cells in the skin are continually dividing and moving to the surface of the skin to replace older cells. Chemotherapeutic drugs can slow this replenishment of skin cells, and thus, weaken the skin's barrier. This leads to cracks in the skin which causes a loss of moisture, severe dryness, irritation and redness, itching and burning, increased risk of skin infection and even sensitivity to the sun. To halt this continuing damage to the skin, a strong moisturizing emulsion with calming effects should be used two or three times a day. Therametics' products, DermaRad Relilef and Skin Relief, are specifically formulated for use on extremely dry and damaged skin.

In addition to the skin damage caused by chemotherapeutic drugs, severe damage occurs as a result of radiation therapy. Typically a cancer patient will undergo 30-35 radiation treatment sessions and by the 10-15th treatments, the skin will begin to show signs of burning, much like a sunburn. This will continue to worsen with every radiation treatment, and by the end of the treatments, the discomfort can be quite severe. Therametics' DermaRad Relief is a highly moisturizing emulsion system that has been clinically tested on cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy. The results show that the product can help patients maintain a normal skin appearance throughout the entire radiation treatment period. For information on the product click here
